“Together in Jesus Christ, Growing in God’s mission to the world, in the power of the Holy Spirit”

OUR STORY

CHS was birthed out of a movement of the Holy Spirit at the Anglican St John’s Parish, Wynberg, in which many were deeply touched and empowered by a new or fresh experience of the Holy Spirit.

In 1999, God called a group of worshippers to start a new expression of an Anglican Church that would be informal, evangelical, with charismatic and contemporary worship, and seek to meet the needs of the poor and socially deprived of all cultures.

This is summed up in our vision statement, “Christ-centred, Bible-based, Spirit-led”.

  • A Christ- Centered life begins with realising that the source of life is Jesus (2 Peter 1:3), and committing to living in relationship with Him (Phil 3:10).

  • We believe that the bible is the Holy, inspired word of God, bringing relevant guidance and speaking truth into our lives today 2 Tim 3:16-17)

  • We believe that we are led, equipped and empowered by the Holy Spirit to live for Jesus (Romans 8:12-17).

WHO ARE WE

We are a diverse, multicultural, intergenerational church family who are Christ-Centred, Bible-Based and Spirit-Led.

These are the values God has called us to live out. We Haven’t ‘arrived’ yet, but we are committed to journey and grow together.

  • WE HAVE HOPE IN JESUS

We believe that Jesus is the Hope of the world and the one in whom we find fullness of life. As we know His transforming power we live expectant of His coming kingdom.

  • WE SEE EACH OTHER

We believe that all people are made in God's image and seek to be an authentic community who value each other in spite of our differences and encourage each other in following Jesus.

  • WE ARE SENT

We are called to be salt and light and to serve and love our neighbours. We embrace God's mission to the world as we share of His goodness and join in His work of restoring shalom (peace) in our world.

  • WE ARE SHAPED BY THE SPIRIT

We are a work in progress, listening, learning and loving with humility and patience, and boldness. We are not afraid to innovate and take risks as we share the gospel and respond to our context.

Church is what goes on when people meet Jesus, meet each other and meet Jesus in each other. Church happens when people gather regularly around Jesus.
